I think I need to regroup and get back to basics. Clearly I am not good enough in a big fleet Racing and slightly off the pace. So will hold off on international events next year until I can prove consistency at the front. I have a great boat but clearly am missing something. I guess expecting to get to the top 10 in the world after 3 years of sailing is a bit much. I overestimated my skill after 30 years away from the sport.
I will continue with the Alioth as I have not got the maximum potential out of the boat yet. The key thing is the fin needs to move back a touch as it still tends to have weather helm and I need to force the boat down to drive it. It only needs to go back a few mm at the top. Easier said than done
So it’s back to basics. Got lots of thinking to do on set up and sailing, do the UK circuit and build for Datchet 2026 subject to qualifying.
Options going forward
1 Place order for a V design and wait 8 to 18 months
2 Hope a V12 or Venti comes on second hand market
3 Continue with Alioth and stay away from international events
4 Not saying
Decisions, decisions.
