Thought for the day - Trouble with a soft jib leech??

The other day racing at Emsworth in conditions at the top end of the A rig, I struggled to control the tension of the jib leech and that affected the performance of the boat to windward. The jib leach was wide open and the top fluttered in the gusts. A few days later at Gosport I noticed the same thing. All the set up measurements were correct however I then remembered a comment from Brad on his web site saying that he tightened his jib tension by a couple of mm as the breeze came up. So I tried that and the problem was solved. What I thought was a knackered jib just turned out to be a setting error.

If you have the same problem, give the above a try and see what happens.

The Marblehead is going well at Frensham. It will be a great toy for the winter and because of its speed in a breeze, I can improve the smoothness of my steering downwind.

Finally, I noted the results of the vane week so far at Fleetwood. One Peter Stollery is topping the results board. You cannot keep a good man down.

Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts.
