A great days practice

Today was measuring day for me. The organisers made the process as smooth as possible.

Weigh all the batteries

Weigh the fin and bulb.

Check measure the sails and bands

Put the boat together with heaviest rig and drop it in the tank to check depth of bulb, displacement of hull and the length of the boat.

20 min and we were done

The Alioth passed with flying colours

After the measuring it was time for practice. B rig conditions with the wind onshore. I am pleased to say they boat was showing signs of good speed and definitely not slower. At Datchet I was a touch slow downwind as the boat seemed to punch the waves but here it glides smoothly downwind. Maybe it’s the salt content of the water. At least I am not slow.

The challenge as always with the crowded Iom start is to find a way to the right up the first beat and emphasis on keeping clear of other boats. The two short races I got dragged out to the left, I was history. In the main I was at or near the front of the pack. A positive days practice in the company of some of the top skippers.

The site construction is near complete and we should have visibility of the seeding groups tomorrow.
